Annual Bead Challenge 2019: Fiesta Time – Winners

The Bead Society of Northern California proudly presents Bead Challenge 2019: Fiesta Time. Think about the colors reminiscent of Mexican serapes, blankets, and pinatas. The challenge is offered in conjunction with the Alameda County Fair and all entries will be on display at the Alameda County Fair, June 14–July 7, 2019.

Bead Challenge is an annual event where the BSNC Board of Directors develop a theme and creates a project kit. There were some rules that need to be followed (see below), but creativity is the focus.

Rules and Requirements: ___________________________________________________

  • Entries must be completed using the bead kit provided. Submitted work can be either wearable or non-wearable and reflect the theme of Fiesta Time. Interpretation of the theme is up to the beader.
  • At least 50% of the beads provided in the kit must be used. We encourage the return of unused beads with your finished piece.
  • Other beads or materials can be added but the overall piece should consist of at least 50% beads and be ready for display.
  • All pieces must be original designs, not a pattern, design learned in a class, or seen on the Internet.
  • Pieces will be judged on 3 equally weighted categories: technical ability, design, and use of the beads.
  • The contest is open to current BSNC members only and you must be a member when the entry is submitted. To start or renew your membership, click Membership.
  • Multiple entries are accepted, but only one prize per entrant.
  • All pieces must be available for display at the Alameda County Fair, June–July, 2019.

Prizes will be awarded in two categories, Novice and Advanced. You may select either category based on your experience. There will be a first place and honorable mention for each category.

First Place: $75              Honorable Mention: $50

BSNC members that attend the regular meeting on May 21, 2019 will jury all entries. Winners will be chosen based on technical ability, design, and expression of the theme.
