Over the last 20 years the way people shop for everything has radically changed due to internet shopping online. We’ve seen many beloved bead stores close and the slow decline of traditional bead bazaars. Now with the pandemic there are even more shifts away from in person shopping.
David V. Horste of DVHdesigns has been selling handmade beads and cabochons online for 22 years and has ridden the wave of these changes through multiple online shopping and selling platforms. He currently sells through eBay, Etsy, Amazon Handmade, dvhdesigns.com, Facebook, and Instagram.
In this lecture about Online Shopping & Sales David will take advantage of his experience as a bead seller to help inform bead shoppers with what they need to know to navigate these many online shopping platforms. He will talk about social media applications and how both shoppers and sellers use them. Major online marketplaces will be examined from a shopping perspective with information on evaluating a seller’s feedback rating, understanding domestic and international shipping protocols, communicating with sellers, and how refunds work in those various marketplaces.
The fate of independent bead stores adapting to these changes, or not, will also be looked at. We will also examine the opportunities and challenges of selling handmade arts & crafts online as well as the future of arts & crafts communities in this time of pandemic.
There will be time for Q & A afterwards.
