My Journey in the Design Process
April 15 @ 6:45 pm - 8:30 pm

Speaker: Edgar Lopez
Presentation: This presentation is about how I go from the imagination to the reality, seen from my point of view as a designer. It will include how I look for inspiration, what you can do if you are blocked or don’t have a specific inspiration, how to choose colors, shapes, and materials.
Instructor/Speaker Bio: Born and raised in Dominican Republic, Edgar started in the beading world in 2010, however it was in 2002 when he started experimenting with different jewelry and accessories techniques. Edgar Lopez said: “Since I can remember I was always interested in art, design and building all sorts of things with my hands. These are skills that I inherited from my paternal grandmother, who was always a very creative person. Today I can bring all these qualities to create pieces I love and fill me with excitement.”
After studying architecture, he started looking for activities that he could do as a hobby, until he realized that he liked jewelry. Then he began to study jewelry design and worked in the fashion world for different designers.
Edgar has participated in several contests as a contestant and as a jury, and his creations have been published in multiple magazines and books in the United States, Latin America, and Europe.
“Creating is my passion, as an architect and jewelry designer, I learned to mix the best of both worlds, mixing shapes and textures that I can see in nature or buildings, and as a Caribbean I like color and to be risky with their combinations.”
In 2019 he moved to NY and since then he has continued developing his work as a designer and as a teacher, “Teaching others how to make my designs is one of the things that fills me most with satisfaction”.
He is currently developing new projects that combine several of the things he likes the most: fashion, design, the beads, and art.
