The Bead Continues, the Form Changes
May 21 @ 6:45 pm - 8:30 pm
Speaker: Bob Darchi
This will be a narrative that tells how I was first inspired to work with beads and then talks about the route and detours that I, as an artist (like all artists) stumble through. One of my key stumbles is the one that brought me to the technique and style I most often use with my current focus which I call Knot-coiling. I will demonstrate how it is done.
I make baskets. I make necklaces. My current focus is making sculptural wall hangings that combine basket techniques and jewelry making techniques.
Speaker Bio:
Bob Darchi’s attraction to working with beads started late – when he was 47 years old (if you don’t count some earlier time stringing beads as a hippie). In addition to years of selling his work at art shows around the country, he was exhibiting at galleries in California and Hawaii. While he is mostly self-taught, he has also taken classes focused on design, color, and individual techniques. Bob’s work has been included in a museum show and has been published in the now defunct Lapidary Journal.
Galleries:
· Art Options – San Francisco
· Chiarscuro – Chicago
· Jourbachi – Kapaula, Hawaii
· Jourbachi – Waikoloa, Hawaii
