January 2019 Speaker: Elaine Ferrari-Santhon

Gem passionista Elaine Ferrari-Santhon began her education early on by frequenting neighborhood jewelry stores, attending gem and mineral shows, and digging for more information about  what she saw and heard.  This unwavering interest eventually led her to jobs in the gem and jewelry industry. Following employment with retail and wholesale jewelers and working trade shows, Elaine earned her Graduate Gemologist (G.G.) degree in residence at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in Santa Monica, California in 1994.

Subsequently, Elaine held positions teaching online and resident courses in diamonds, diamond grading, colored stones and gem identification at the Gemological Institute of America for over 10 years.  For 7 years she was in the GIA Richard T. Liddicoat Library & Information Center as acquisitions and  reference librarian.  For the past 6 years Elaine has been involved in teaching  gemology at Santiago Canyon College in Orange, California.
