May 2019 Speaker: Linda Sicard

Tiny Treasures…..The Story of Buttons

Linda’s love affair with buttons began early as a love and appreciation of the antiques she grew up with.  What other high school student writes a paper on the History of American Art Glass?

Over the years Linda’s knowledge and love of all things old led her to a career as an antiques dealer and shop owner.  Eventually Linda focused on vintage clothing and jewelry.  Until the day she realized she wanted to be more creative and she started assembling and designing jewelry using vintage bits and bobs and BUTTONS!

Once Linda discovered the world of buttons and button collecting she never looked back! Thirty years later Linda is a life member of the National Button Society and has never missed an annual convention.  Her knowledge and enthusiasm for the miniature works of art continues to expand.  As does her vast and varied collection which she now shares with fellow enthusiasts at bead, button, sewing, knitting and vintage fashion shows!

From fibula to French enamel, the history, beauty, and artistry of buttons will fascinate you. Buttons have been made of every material known to man in every art form and every construction method. Find out why people collect these little beauties and be inspired to start your own collection.

Linda will be showing buttons from her own collection as well as offering buttons for sale, both collectibles as well as useful types. If you already own buttons and have questions about them, please bring them and Linda will be happy to share what she knows about them.
