Annual Bead Challenge 2018: Under the Savanna Sun – Winners

The Bead Society of Northern California proudly presents Bead Challenge 2018: Under the Savanna Sun. Bead Challenge is an annual event where the BSNC Board of Directors develop a theme and creates a project kit. There were some rules that need to be followed (see below), but creativity is the focus. The challenge is offered in conjunction with the Alameda County Fair and all entries will be on display at the Alameda County Fair,  June 14–July 8, 2018.

Beads have been around for nearly 100,000 years.  In that time different materials, shapes, designs, and uses have defined entire civilizations.  The selection of beads used in the challenge pulls from the history of African trade beads.  Although sand cast and ceramic beads aren’t shiny and new, they were once a way of life both economically and socially within the African continent.  The history of these beads helped to shape the bead trade of modern society.

This contest has two categories: Experienced and Novice.
