This presentation will explore beading as a way to practice mindfulness, create rituals, and craft talismans. We will start by examining how beadwork has historically marked important milestones like marriage, birth, and coming of age. Then, I will share some of my previous works which aim to create modern rituals and free the mind, such as my 100 Days of Beading project, my meditation necklaces, and make-your-own magic pouches.
As beaderworkers, it’s easy to lose your passion for beading when your focus is only on patterns or selling your finished pieces. In this talk, I aim to inspire you to venture beyond your comfort zone, try bold color combinations, and craft beadwork that holds personal meaning and symbolism—making them cherished keepsakes for future generations. I believe now, more than ever, we need to slow down, disconnect, and focus on something as simple as one bead at a time.
Speaker Bio:
Darcy Le Fleming has been beading for over 30 years. In the past six years, she has become passionate about teaching and designing beading patterns. She now dedicates her time to creating YouTube tutorials for her channel, which has over 38,000 subscribers and nearly 2 million views. Additionally, she spends much of her time engaging with her Bead Camp community and developing beading pattern books that have sold thousands of copies. Darcy lives in the English countryside since relocating from Brooklyn, New York, in 2020. She resides with her husband, two daughters, and two bead-loving cats.
