Janice Peacock speaks: “Your Bead in Venice” International Exhibition, A Finalist’s Adventure in Murano and Venice
Speaker: Janice Peacock
Presentation: Janice Peacock was a finalist in the 2025 international competition “Your Bead for Venice,” where glass beadmakers from around the world competed for twenty finalist positions. From those finalists, First, Second, and Third winners were selected, along with a few other special awards. Join Janice for a presentation about her experience in Venice and Murano during September 2025, when the organizing institutions offered finalists an extraordinary behind-the-scenes look at Venetian glass bead culture, including a historical tour exploring the Impiraresse—the bead stringers of Venice—and access to the Effetre Glass Factory. The sheer volume of glass production, with countless kilns, furnaces, and rows of stunning glass rods, was breathtaking to witness.
As part of Venice Glass Week, the finalists visited a glass beadmaking studio on Murano, learned the delicate art of creating seed bead flowers, and spent time at the Glass Museum viewing the finalists’ work. The week included a special awards ceremony celebrating these contemporary beadmakers. Janice will share images and stories from these events, including images of the spectacular beads from the finalists, which are now part of the permanent collection of the Venice Glass Museum.
